The movie industry is among the toughest in the world to get in to. 26-year-old
Eva Gausvik from Kvinnherad is among those who have managed to get through the eye of the needle. Eva got her dream job.
Eva Gausvik had a dream of working with film and took one step closer to that goeal when she started her three-year film education at the
University of
Surrey Roehampton, in
London
England. (http://www.roehampton.ac.uk/)

Linda Marie Johansen, interview from sornett.no
- After I finished my education I wanted to get into the industry, but I knew that would be a lot easier said than done. I simply sent out applications to all production offices, TV channels and anything remotely related to film in
Norway in the hope that there would be someone out there who would give me a chance.
40 Applications Later
Eva’s dream was to work with the camera, and after sending out 40 applications, with only three answers, all saying there was no opening Odd Hynnekleiv called and asked if she’d like to start as an intern while they were preparing to start production on a movie during the following year.
Dream Job!
Eva is now working as the second camera assistant on the movie Yohan. She works closely with Odd Hynnekleiv, who is the Director of Photography on the film.
Eva is still pinching her arm to make sure it’s all not just a dream.
- I’m looking for someone with ambition and curiosity.
It was Eva’s background and her strong desire to work in film that caught the interest of producer Odd Hynnekleiv. He decided to give her a chance, get to know her and see what would become of her.
- Curiosity is an underestimated ability here in
Norway. I’m looking for people with ambition, an intense desire and ability to learn. If you have this, you have what it takes to work on our movie. It was this and hard work that resulted in Eva getting her dream job here at Penelope Film.
A Success Story
- I think you could call me one of the success stories from my University in
England, says a smiling and proud Eva. Of the ones I’ve talked to I’m the only one of my fellow students who is working on a major film. It’s hard work, and there are times my whole body aches but it’s definitely worth it. The final film; Yohan will be fantastic, and it’s a great dream come true as I’ve had an important part in helping to make the film.
